Inside the Private Life of a Super Bowl Champ
Feb. 4 2008, Published 3:58 p.m. ET
It isn’t easy to love a professional football player, the New York Giants’ Brandon Jacobs admits.
“It’s very hard,” the Super Bowl champ tells me. “A lot is required of you, a lot is required of you from your team, a lot is required of you from the club that you play with, a lot is required of you from your fans and what they want you to do, so it’s very hard.”
Fortunately, Brandon, 25, has been married to wife Kim for two years.
“She keeps me grounded,” he tells me. “She keeps me squared away with what’s important, what’s not important, what’s priority. I think she’s done good.”
The couple are parents to 11-month-old son Brayden.
“Fatherhood is something different,” he tells me. “My kid, he’s not a bad kid. He just likes to move around and do a lot of things. It didn’t really change anything for me. I’m only there from 4:00 to 4:30. I only have a limited time to spend with him. When I get home, he’s napping and he goes to bed at 9:00, so on nights like tonight, I’ll miss him. Tonight I got home at 4:30, and stayed home. I left at 7:30, and I won’t get home till 11. He’d already be sleeping for an hour-and-a-half, so tonight I’ll miss him.”
