The Fourth of July celebrates the moment the United States became an independent nation after winning the Revolutionary War. In 1776, the Continental Congress voted in favor in independence, and a few days later, 13 colonies adopted the Declaration of Independence, a document that was drafted by Thomas Jefferson.
