Move over glossy lips and low-rise jeans – in yet another blast from the Y2K past, spiky buns have sprung from the pages of our old Seventeen magazines and back into the limelight. Appearing on stars like Olivia Rodrigo, Dixie D'Amelio and even supermodel Gigi Hadid, who rocked the look at the Met Gala earlier this week, this aughts style has taken both the red carpet and social media by storm.
MY LIP GLOSS IS POPPIN': THREE WAYS TO ROCK THE LIP GLOSS TREND IN 2022
Even with all of its sharp and slicked elements, getting the look doesn't have to be hard — especially with the right tools and techniques.
There are countless ways to hop on this throwback trend, as exemplified through the parade of tutorials on TikTok and YouTube; however, we gleaned inspiration from celebrity hairstylist stylist Jared Henderson, who outlined how he achieved this look on Doja Cat for the 2022 Grammy Awards.
In a recent Instagram post, Henderson, who is a partner with haircare brand ghd, said he kicked off this style by washing the "Say So" singer's hair with Joico's Defy Damage shampoo and conditioner. He then straightened her tresses with ghd's Platinum+ Styler adding extensions and a spritz of JoiMist Firm Finishing Spray "to smooth the hair up into a sleek ponytail."

After flat ironing the hair again and infusing in some extra sheen with a "dime sized" amount of Joico's Blonde Life Brilliant Glow Brightening Oil, he then "twisted the hair and wrapped it into a bun with 2 spikes."
Finally, he said he added an extra spritz of the finishing spray "to control frizz and keep everything perfect while she sat for the show."
If it's good enough for Doja Cat, it's good enough for us!
