Adele may have sold almost 17 million copies of her album 21 worldwide, but she hasn't gotten to perform any of her chart-topping songs for months. Why? Well, the Grammy-nominated singer underwent a scary throat surgery after doctors discovered that a polyp on her vocal cord had hemmorhaged.

And for the first time since the November procedure, Adele is opening up about what exactly happened and if she'll ever be able to sing again.

"It felt like someone put a curtain over my throat," the "Rolling in the Deep" singer tells Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes of the French radio performance that put a hold on her career. "It felt like something popped in my throat."

That pop was Adele's polyp bursting, which of course led doctors to schedule the vocal-cord surgery.

"I had laser surgery," Adele explains. "They put lasers down your throat, cut off the polyp, and kind of laser your hemorrhage back together and fix it."

After the procedure, Adele couldn't talk for weeks, something she found incredibly difficult, considering that she's a chatterbox! "Not speaking was really hard," she admits. "I love talking."

She began writing things down on a pad in order to communicate, until she discovered a phone app. "I had an application on my phone that you type the words into it and then it speaks it," Adele reveals. "But the great thing is I love to swear. Most of the apps you can't swear on, but I found this one app where you can swear, so I'm still really getting my point across."

Adele is looking forward to her Grammy performance this Sunday but says that her vocal cords are still not completely ready for a long streak of performances. "If I decide to go on a 200-date world tour, it would happen again," Adele admits. But hey, at least she's happy, healthy and back just in time for music's biggest night!
