'Up in the Air' Leads All Golden Globes Nominees
Dec. 15 2009, Published 2:51 p.m. ET
Once again, everyone in Tinseltown woke up at 5:30 am this morning to find out if they — or their movie or TV show — received a nod from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, as the HFPA announced the slate of nominees for the 67th Golden Globe Awards. The Globes, which will air Jan. 17 on NBC, are often considered a precursor to the Oscars and a Globe nomination can often raise a small film's Oscar stock significantly.
Up in the Air leads all films with six nominations, including Best Picture — Drama, Best Actor — Drama for George Clooney and supporting nominations for co-stars Vera Farmiga and Anna Kendrick.
On the TV side, Fox newcomer Glee edged out awards show fave 30 Rock for the lead in total nominations with four, including Best TV Show — Musical/Comedy. Also receiving love from the HFPA were Dexter, Damages, Big Love, Mad Men and Grey Gardens, all of which earned three nods. Both Gardens stars Jessica Lange and Drew Barrymore earned acting nominations for their work.
There are several multiple nominees in the acting categories, with Meryl Streep being nominated against herself in the Best Actress — Musical or Comedy category (for Julie & Julia and It's Complicated). Sandra Bullock was a surprise nominee in boht the Dramatic and Musical/Comedy categories (for The Proposal and The Blind Side), as was Matt Damon (for The Informant! and Invictus). True Blood's Anna Paquin was nominated for that show, as well as for The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler.
