Although is contentious divorce and custody battle was played out in the media, Alec Baldwin assures that his new book, A Promise to Ourselves, is not a juicy tell-all attack on his estranged ex-wife, Kim Basinger.
This book isnt about me burying my ex-wife Kim Basinger, not at all," he tells Extra. "That doesnt do me any good."
Instead, the tome, which will be released in September, is aimed at giving other families advice for going through a separation or divorce. The 30 Rock star felt the need to put pen to paper because "everywhere you go, people are getting divorced."
"In my book I say that the judges in family law are like pit bosses in casinos," Alec says. "They want to keep everyone at the tables, having drinks and gambling and losing money."
Alec and Kim separated in 2000 after seven years of marriage. She filed for divorce the following year and the two agreed to joint custody of their daughter, Ireland, now 12.
Last spring, Alec came under fire when a voicemail of him unleashing an angry tirade of insults at Ireland and Kim surfaced. He subsequently apologized for his temper, stating that he was upset that Ireland once again ignored a pre-arranged phone call with him, and announced his intentions to write a book on the matter.

Once the book hits shelves, Alec, 50, said he's "sure more people will understand the incredible strains created by parental alienation."
