Alec Tweeted the sad news regarding the fate of his skit before the show.
"Fox did kill my NewsCorp hacking joke," the 30 Rock star wrote about his spoof on New Corp. chief executive Rupert. "Which sucks bc I think it would have made them look better. A little."
According to The Wall Street Journal, Alec's skit was supposed to open the Emmy's and have the actor playing the role of the president of a television studio. The joke that was cut was reportedly one where Alec asked if Mr. Murdoch was listening to his call.
A spokesperson for Fox said News Corp. didn't cut the joke because it mentioned Rupert, but rather Fox cut it because they take the phone-hacking seriously and thought the joke was in "poor taste."

Alec Tweeted, "I understand NewsCorp killing that joke... If I were enmeshed in a scandal where I hacked phones of families of innocent crime victims purely 4 profit, I'd want that 2 go away, 2."
"Are some companies #toobigtojail ?" he later asked.
The actor opted not to attend the Emmys last night and instead attended Tony Bennett's 85th birthday gala in New York.
