Aretha Franklin Calls Off Engagement to William Wilkerson

The wedding is off. Aretha Franklin was one of the many celebrities to get engaged over the holidays, but she won't be heading down the aisle.

Aretha's rep, in a statement to Access Hollywood, confirmed that Aretha has called of her engagement to her longtime friend William "Willie" Wilkerson.

Just after the New Year, Aretha's rep told OK!, "The Queen of Soul brought in the New Year right by talking marriage with longtime friend and confidant William 'Willie' Wilkerson. The 'forever friends' are discussing getting hitched on the sandy shores of Miami Beach with an exclusive reception to follow aboard a private luxury yacht. Ms. Franklin is considering Donna Karan, Valentino and the queen of wedding dresses, Vera Wang, to design her gown."

Aretha added, "We're looking at June or July for our date, and no, I'm not pregnant!"

So what went wrong?

Apparently, "a number of things" had not been thought through, and Aretha felt things were moving too quickly.
