Avatar Rakes in $352.1 Million

Although the Twilight Saga: New Moon had much potential to break records for the year in box office numbers, it looks as though 2009’s biggest hit has James Cameron’s name all over it as Avatar has already raked in $352.1 million.

James, who also directed the epic film Titanic, has much to smile about as his innovative movie grossed another $68.3 million this weekend alone and over $300 million domestically in just 17 days, E! Online reports.

Avatar, which is one of the most expensive movies ever made, was released at the very end of 2009 and is already in fourth place for the highest grossing movie already at around $1 billion worldwide alone according to E! Online.

If the sci-fi flick featuring Sigourney Weaver and Zoe Saldana keeps its’ pace steady, it may have a fighting chance as 2009’s number one movie, above Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen at $402 million domestically, E! Online reports.

Well just have to wait and see if Avatar can surpass James’ first monstrous hit Titanic at upwards of $600 million.
