In June, Colton made a plea deal to forfeit any profits from selling his story about his two-year-long international crime spree. Now 20, he committed more than 100 thefts (some while barefoot) and was eventually captured by police in the Bahamas where he was trying to flee by boat to Cuba on July 11, 2010.
"I did things that were not only a violation of law, but also of trust," Colton said in a written statement through his attorneys (via TIME magazine). "I can't undo what I did. I can only try to make things better."

To make thinks better, he will repay his victims with the $1.3 million he's receiving from 20th Centuy Fox to put his story on the big screen. That amount of money is unprecedented, but Colton would reportedly only agree to a deal if it was enough to repay his victims.

"I am humbled to know I can now help the people I hurt, at least for the financial damage I caused them," he continued in his statement. "I have absolutely zero interest in profiting from any of this, and I won't make a dime off it. It all goes to restitution. That's what I insisted on from the beginning, and the contract I signed guarantees it."
