Bette Midler is ‘Crazy For Trees’
Dec. 1 2007, Published 1:00 p.m. ET
Does Bette Midler want to be a tree in her next life?
Bette, who turns 62 today, says she’s “crazy for trees.”
Her New York Restoration Project has been saving trees since 1995, and is devoted to restoring the city’s parks and gardens.
“We want to plant a million trees in ten years,” she says. “I love my planet, I love the people on the planet and I mostly love trees.”
Even her favorite vacation spot, Hawaii, has a tree connection.

“It is very exotic, smells beautiful and at one time they had the best tree pruners,” she says. “Now they don’t have the tree pruners anymore.”
Hopefully Bette will receive some tree-friendly gifts from hubby Martin von Haselberg, 58, whom she married in 1984, and daughter Sophie, 21.
