BREAKING: ANGELINA JOLIE'S MOTHER DIES

Following a prolonged battle with cancer, 's mother, actress Marcheline Bertrand died at the age of 56. Marcheline, who shared a close bond with her Oscar-winning daughter, passed away at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Saturday after battling ovarian cancer for several years. Both Angelina, 31, and partner , 43, were at the hospital accompanied by her brother, actor James Haven, 33.'Angelina looked very distraught,' a source tells OK! 'You could tell she had been crying. Brad was trying to comfort her.'Angelina and Brad flew by private jet from New Orleans to L.A. the same day after Marcheline's health took a turn for the worse.She spoke about her mother's condition on CNN's Larry King last month. Marcheline was 'doing good' at the time, she said, adding, 'She has fought for six years and she's a remarkable woman, she's very, very strong and her spirit remains unbroken.'Angelina and her mother had maintained a close relationship over the years. They visited France together in March last year with Brad as Angelina prepared for the birth of her eight-month-old daughter Shiloh.Angelina and Brad recently set up home together in New Orleans where Brad is filming The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.Marcheline was married to Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, Angelina's father, from 1971 to 1978.
