Cameron Diaz: "I'm Not Afraid to Be Happy"

Cameron Diaz is a Hollywood golden girl. She's got the body, the resume and a laugh that can disarm the most serious of sorts. But underneath the goofiness, the actress is a deep thinker.
"I'm just kind of taking more time getting to know myself," Diaz, 35, reveals in the new issue of W magazine. "It sounds so corny that I can't believe I even just said that but, you know, there comes a time when you really have to get to know who you are... I've just been figuring out what interests me and spending time with people who are important to me and being present in my own life."
Currently shooting the film My Sister's Keeper, the project is a departure from Cameron's usually quirky, upbeat roles. In the film, the actress plays the mother of a seriously ill child who conceives a baby to be a donor match. But despite it's somewhat 'downer' theme, Cameron wants to make it very clear she doesn't take her career or herself too seriously.
Following My Sister's Keeper, she says, "I envision a full year off, just living life and having fun. It's the best thing."

She adds, "I think sometimes people are afraid to say that they're happy — they feel guilty about it. My life isn't perfect. I have my struggles; everybody does. But I want to appreciate all of the amazing things in my life. People should have the right to be happy."
And one of the things that makes Cameron happy is Las Vegas!
"I loooooove Vegas," she gushes. "It's such an easy trip from L.A., and there's always a hotel room because there's about a billion of them — but honestly, you don't even really need one if you're just going for the weekend!"
