Carrie: Chace & I Broke Up Over Text
April 7 2008, Published 5:38 a.m. ET
While many couples break up in person or over the phone, Carrie Underwood and Chace Crawford went for the techie route. In a sign of the times, Carrie tells Extra after the taping of Idol Gives Back that she and the Gossip Girls pretty boy parted ways over text messages.
“We're both fine. We broke up over text. It's like ‘peace out,’ ” Carrie says.
The breakup was “completely mutual” as both of them realized they weren’t working together.
“No hard feelings at all whatsoever,” the 25-year-old says. “I haven't talked to him in awhile but, I mean, I don't dislike him. So it's no big deal.”
What is a big deal, though, is when the media gets wind of a personal situation and revisits a painful time in the past, Carrie says. While the couple split a while ago, news of the breakup didn’t make rounds until last month.
“It's difficult while you're dating because people always make a lot bigger deal of things than they actually are," she says. "And then when you break up with somebody and then like two months later it comes out and it's like you're rehashing old stuff. I don't know why that's all out now.”

Meanwhile, Carrie dished to OK! about her feelings about this season's competition. She said, "I think it's a great group of great people - they all have their own individual styles. I'm not going to say a favorite just because they don't need that. They're all putting it out there and doing the best job that they can and they don't need someone else telling them what they think."
The winner of season four was quick to impart advice on the current Idol contestants.
She told OK!, ""Just leave it all out on that stage. Put it all out there. Do the best you can every week. They already know that. I don't know if there's anything anyone could have said to me that would have prepared me for what I do."
She added, "So I guess if they ever had any questions, I'm here!"
