Carrie Underwood Set For Honeymoon Surprise

Carrie Underwood is in for a post-wedding shocker. She’s totally in the dark about where groom Mike Fisher is taking her on their honeymoon.
“I don’t know where it is,” the American Idol beauty, 27, says backstage during CMA Music Festival’s opening night held Thursday at Nashville’s LP Field. “It’s a surprise. That was Mike’s project, and I have no clue where we’re going, which is nice. I know it will be warm, and that’s about it.”

With a schedule jam-packed with tour dates and appearances, Carrie relies on a wedding planner to put all the finishing touches on the big day when she will tie the knot with the Ottawa Senators hockey player, 30.
“I have a really great planner,” she confesses. “Both of us are very busy. I still have a tour to finish, and there’s a lot of good things going on this summer, so it’s getting through all that and taking things one step at a time. Lots of phone and e-mail conversations.”

Still, the special touches she’s hinted at such as her dog Ace serving as ring bearer, cupcakes in lieu of a wedding cake, vegetarian cuisine, writing their own wedding vows, celebrating their joint Oklahoma and Canadian heritage or a giving guests a sentimental party favor don’t spring to mind.
“I haven’t been to too many weddings, so I really don’t have that much to compare it to, but I guess the unique thing will just be laughs me and Mike,” she tells me. “We’ve never been married before, so it won’t be like anybody else’s.”

But when it comes to her wedding registry, Carrie is far more low-key than bridezilla.
“We really didn’t register,” she tells me. “We just want people there. The basics are always nice. Some nice wine or something where you can write your name on it. When you come over for dinner, we’d break it out. But we just want people there. That’s the best gift.”
Lucky for Carrie, Mike is making fast friends in Nashville.
“He was talking to Brad Paisley earlier, and he’s like ‘let’s all hang out,’ and I’m like ‘I leave on Saturday and go back on the road,’” she said backstage during the CMT Awards this week. “He’s like ‘we don’t need her, let’s go.’ Everybody’s been super nice – not that I expected anything different – because I know what kind of people I’m around. But it’s been really great.”
Indeed, she is grateful he was sitting beside her when she took home CMT Video of the Year for Cowboy Casanova and Performance of The Year Video for Temporary Home.

“It’s really great having him there because no matter what happens, I will go home a winner. I have the biggest prize! And it’s the guy sitting next to me. Win or lose, I know he’s proud of me, and that’s really nice. It’s nice to share the good times with him, too, and have him here for anything – it’s great.”

One skill she’s honed from spending time with Mike? How to spot a Canadian.
“You’re from Canada,” she teases a reporter backstage. “You said 'ab-oot.' laughs I recognize your kind now.”
