Dan Peek, America Founder, Dies at 60

Amy Winehouse wasn't the only singer who had an untimely death this past weekend. Dan Peek, founder of the iconic '70s band America, passed away on Sunday. He was found dead in his Missouri home at the age of 60.

According to RadarOnline, his wife found him dead in their bedroom and as of right now, the cause of death is unknown.

Along with Gerry Beckley and Dewey Bunnell they founded America in 1969 and quickly catapulted to the top of the charts. As for their hits? A Horse with No Name, Ventura Highway and Sister Golden Hair hit the Top 40. No slouch in the writing department either, Dan wrote a few hits, too such as Lonely PeopleDon't Cross the River and Woman Tonight.

Although he left the band in 1977 to pursue a solo Christian career, it sounds like Dan left the group on good terms. On the band's website Glenn wrote, "I am deeply saddened to hear the news of Dans passing. He was a dear friend for many years. Dan & his music will live on in the great songs he shared with us all. My sincere condolences go out to Catherine and the entire Peek family. May he rest in peace...."
