OK! Exclusive: Dane Cook On His Upcoming Comedy Special And How He Stands Up To Cancer
Dec. 9 2015, Updated 12:23 p.m. ET
Comedian, Dane Cook, opened up to OK! about the importance of raising awareness for brain cancer, his upcoming holiday plans and his highly-anticipated comedy special.
OK! Magazine: Talk to me about The Beauty Book for Brain Cancer and what brought you out tonight.
Cook: Well, I’m in the book and I’ve known “Pantera” Sarah Uphoff for a long time. This book personally touches me because I lost both my mom and dad to cancer so anything I can do, or we can do, to try and bring some more always needed attention to it is fantastic, and I think it’s crucial. Especially when we’re at such a fun and enjoyable evening.
OK! Magazine: Were you nervous at all posing for the book?
Cook:Laughs No, no. Basically at this point in my career I’ve had enough moments in front of the camera. And I think to myself, ‘I don’t know how I got this far’, but I trust that the photographers know what they’re doing. I’ll throw on the clothes they tell me to and look in that direction. The outfit we went for was like a throwback Mickey Rourke kind of thing; an old tank top and jeans.
OK! Magazine:What new projects can we expect from you? Any stand-up comedy in the works?
Cook: I’ve been working on a new special. I’m done with it, just finessing the jokes now. I’ll be directing it, like I did the last one and I’ll figure out in which city it’s supposed to be. You’ll have to keep up on my Instagram to figure out where I’m going to film the special. Even I’m still deciding that. I have three places in mind but that’s a secret.

OK! Magazine: Do you have a favorite past comedy routine? My favorite is “Date at the Movies!”
Cook: Laughs Then that’s my favorite one too! No, I can’t say I have a favorite but I like that people enjoyed the crying bit as well. That whole special is very near and dear to my heart. People still quote lines from it to me and I love it. Someone quoted that special yesterday.
OK! Magazine: And what about any Christmas or New Years plans?
Cook: I might take a trip but I just don’t know where yet. I stayed home for Thanksgiving so now for Christmas and New Years I’m hoping to get out of town. Maybe even out of the country, but I don’t know.
OK! Magazine: What’s the Christmas present you most want to get this year?
Cook: I want to spend time with my little sister. If she surprised me, and came up here to visit her big brother that would be so special.
