With the birth of Victoria and David Beckham’s first daughter last Sunday, the doting dad took to his official Facebook fan page to post photos and explain just why the couple chose the name Harper Seven Beckham for their precious newborn baby girl.
“A lot of thought goes into our children’s names,” David gushed in a video posted on his Facebook page over the weekend, “and Harper was a name that we have loved for a long time for a couple of reasons.”

The LA Galaxy soccer pro explained that the name Harper was chosen because of its historical roots and in honor of Victoria’s favorite novel.
“One of the reasons is Harper is an old English name, which we love, and one of the other reasons – Victoria’s favorite book is To Kill a Mockingbird and the author was Harper Lee. It’s a very strong, passionate book so that’s where Harper came from.”

In choosing Seven for their daughter’s middle name, David admitted that, “a lot of people have assumed that its just because my shirt number that I wore for many years and part of it is. Part of it is that I had so much luck wearing that number for England, for Manchester United. It was such an influential number throughout my career and a lucky number, but that wasn’t the main reason.”

“To have another girl in the family, is incredible,” the London-native explained, “Having a daughter is a whole new thing having pink in the house, lilac in the house, and you have to be a lot more delicate with girls than boys and I am not used to that. So it’s a whole new experience, but an amazing experience to have that little bundle of joy in your hands.”
