Debra Messing Opens Up About Divorce From Daniel Zelman: 'Till Death Do Us Part' is Unrealistic

Debra Messing split with her husband of a decade last year and is refreshingly optimistic about the whole ordeal.

She opened up to the June issue of Ladies Home Journal about ending her 20-year long romance with Daniel Zelman and seems to have a very modern take on divorce.

"Twenty years. It’s a very long time... I think the institute of marriage is a noble thing. I think the idea of a partner for life is incredibly romantic," she tells the magazine. "But now we’re living to 100. A hundred years ago people were dying at age 37. Till death do us part was a much different deal.”

The Smash actress relocated to NYC to film the series and says finding a home and a school for her son was "traumatic" but overall welcomed the change.

"It was literally moving here with nothing but faith and hope. It’s a new chapter in my personal life," she said. "We are dear friends. And I am at peace with the journey we’ve had. I feel like the 20 years we had together has been a huge success. And despite the fact that everything is changing, I think everyone is thriving.”
