Exciting news! Dermot Mulroney, who we all know from romantic comedies like My Best Friend's Wedding and The Family Stone, is set to guest-star on FOX's hit new series, New Girl!
The hunky actor will play Russell, the love interest for Zooey Deschanel's character Jess. Russell helps to create a new dynamic with the guys in the apartment.
“I’m a parent of one of her students,” Dermot tells AccessHollywood.com of how his divorced character meets the "adorkable" teacher. “I’m some sort of CEO."
And although Dermot says the producers of the show don't really let him know what's going to happen with his character and Jess, he does admit that his and Zooey's age difference plays a role in the plot.
“I think that’s part of the story line,” Dermot explains. “What I think in the show is that this group of roommates are all kind of too old to be acting like they do, and they’re trying to figure out what the next part of their lives is going to be. So some of that plays into the age difference between the character I play and the character Zooey plays.”
As for whether Jess — who has dated Paul (Justin Long) and [SPOILER] has a one-night-stand with Oliver (Ryan Kwanten) on the Valentine's Day episode — likes older men, Dermot says she seems to be digging it!
“Well, so far we seem to be getting along fine,” he admits. “She’s not sure — sort of along the lines of what you said. And as I said, I’ll stick around as long as they’ll have me.”
