Bravo Network will tape its first ever A-List Awards tonight at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.
Recognizing top contenders in food, fashion, design, beauty and pop culture, the channel will be rolling out the VIP welcome mat for a host of stars, including Dancing with the Stars’ Karina Smirnoff, who’s spending her reality TV hiatus back on the east coast.
I wanted to see just how a competitive ballroom dancer gets camera ready, so I joined Karina at Spa H at Club H Fitness on the East Side as she got dolled up to take on the red carpet. Her simple secret? Lots of shut-eye!
“If I get a good eight hours of sleep, or I have a day where I don’t have to wake up early, it’s the best thing. You look younger, you look fresh and you don’t look tired,” she revealed.
Who wouldn’t be down for hitting the sheets more? Before you do, Karina advises, “Take olive oil and dilute it with water to remove your makeup. It doesn’t stretch your skin as much and keeps it moist. I tried that while I was on the show, and it really does work.”

I wanted to get to the bottom – of Karina’s soles – to find out how she keeps those dancing feet in top condition. "I do pedicures every week or so and use a pumice stone," she said. "But when I'm getting ready for a competition, they can get really ugly."
Thank goodness our technicians Kathy and Sara were pros!
In a fun bit of network synergy, Karina, along with other celebs, will be wearing a dress designed by Project Runway season three runner up Michael Knight, which will be auctioned online June 4 - 11 at BravoTV.com to benefit UNICEF.
Said Karina, "He whipped it up in three hours and it's so simple and beautiful. I love it!"
