The earthquake was the biggest in modern Japanese history, NBC's Today reports, and after the tsunami hit a "nuclear emergency" was issued.
"According to police, 200 to 300 bodies were found in the northeastern coastal city of Sendai," Today reports. "The death toll was likely to continue climbing given the scale of Friday's disaster."
Lindsay Lohan Tweeted this morning, "My mommy just woke my sister and i up to this! god bless those that are in fear" with an image of CNN news reporting on Japan.
