The identity of the surrogate mother has not been revealed and it hasn't been confirmed whose sperm was used. Becoming parents has been quite a journey for Elton and David since they attempted to adopt an HIV-positive Ukranian orphan in 2009 only to discover a slight snag to their plan. According to Ukranian law, the couple had to be married (civil unions were not applicable) and under the age of 45. Elton is actually 62 so their plans to adopt the boy were nixed. It appears their determination prevailed as they pursued the surrogate route to become fathers and raise a child.

Celebrities are already sending their congratulatory notes (or in some cases tweets) as Elizabeth Hurley tweeted, "Massive congratulations to David and Elton on having their beautiful son. Can't wait for my first cuddle."
