
Transformers Breaks Records in China

Forget star-crossed lovers in Titanic, the new record holders in China belong to a group of robots, as Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen surpassed the 1998 box office mark set by the big boat by earning over 400 million Chinese yuan ($59 million), a publicist says for the country's film importer.
Spokesman Weng Li of China Film Group tells the Associated Press that Titanic earned today's equivalent of 360 million yuan, or $43 million in 1998. But Transformers, which appeared in wide release in that country, holds the title of biggest earner now. ,

"This is a tremendous achievement for the market in China and clearly shows that there is a strong growing demand for international films," said Mike Ellis, Asia-Pacific managing director of the Hollywood trade organization, Motion Picture Association of America.
