Fashion Week fades to Oscar Week

Once again writing from 30,000 ft. (34,333ft, to be exact) as I make the familiar Virgin America JFK-LAX flight. I stayed an extra day and night in NYC than planned, hoping that Jen Aniston would show up at David Arquette and Ben Harper’s fashion soiree for their clothing line PROPR, and that then John Mayer, who was nearby in NYC at the new Armani store opening, would stop by to join, but alas, it seems that when Mayer and Aniston parted ways in the Bahamas Monday, on separate planes, they indeed traveled to opposite coasts.
This year’s PROPR event was less proper than last season, and although David and Ben along with their wives Courtney Cox and Laura Dern did mingle in the very crowded VIP balcony area for a bit before heading down to an even more exclusive cordoned off seating area off to the side of the stage at music venue The Highline, I was less than impressed this time.
Next stop was a very ‘fashion-y’ party for a photographer at an art gallery in the lower east side where they served wine in champagne glasses and I was one of few woman tipping the scales over 100lbs. My friend Amber is ‘in fashion’ and was in her element as I observed. Observing became more interesting when I spotted Gisele Bundchen, without Tom Brady for the night, laughing in front of me. The party only downgraded a bit when I also saw Nicky Hilton, Paris Hilton, her ex Stavros Niarchos. Does Paris EVER get tired? I saw her earlier in the day at the tents too.

Post fashion party I joined friends who were having a late dinner at the Waverly Inn. They were seated in the garden in the back and on my way through I saw Oscar nominee Mickey Rourke, Molly Sims and David Spade. Not together. On her way out Amanda Bynes walked by out table and I heard her ask if Rose Bar would be fun that night.
We wouldn’t know, as our next stop was The Elderidge for the owner and my friend Jo’s bday. One glass of champagne and it was off to the next stop – which for me was home for a nap before the airport. I wasn’t even convinced when my friend who continued on said she just ran into Leo DiCaprio, Josh Hartnett and Lukas Haas and I should come back out and join.
I’m glad I didn’t as I’m tired enough on my brief hours of sleep that preceded what will be a long, fun, hopefully story-filled Oscar Week. An hour after I land I have an ‘Oscar Week Planning Meeting’ after which I’ll have just enough time to shower and dig out a new dress from my suitcase before going to the first of several black tie parties ;) xo
