Felicity Huffman plays busy mom Lynette Scavo on Desperate Housewives and in real life, her home is just as busy! She lives with her husband, actor William H. Macy, two daughters, Sophia and Georgia, a rabbit, a hamster, their adopted dog Tucker B. Jones and she may add another family member.
“They want a little dog,” Felicity told I! at the Iams Home 4 The Holidays 10th Anniversary Kick-Off Oct. 6 in NYC, where she fell in love with a maltipoo puppy. “I really want to (take him home) but I think my husband might kill me.”
Felicity is working with the charity with the goal of placing one million animals in loving homes this holiday season. She became involved in the campaign after her experience adopting her black Labrador mix, Hunter, two years ago.
“He’s very loving, very smart and very clever,” Felicity says. “He opens the doors, he does this amazing circus move. The girls alternate who gets to sleep with him at night and of course the rule is he’s on the floor but when we go in to get him at 10:30 or 11, they’re wrapped around him and you peak your head in and he perks up and wakes up.”
With as many as eight million orphaned pets in the US and four million cats and dogs euthanized each year because of shelter overcrowding, Felicity says there’s no better gift you can give for the holidays than saving an animal.
“People have more time during the holidays,” she says. “Families think, we have some time at home, we can get to know the dog and the dog can get to know us. So it’s just a wonderful to bring in a new family member.”
Felicity is also staying busy filming the new season 5 of Desperate Housewives where Lynette has two additional family members.
“I have new twins, Max and Charlie Carver, which are wonderful,” she says. “They’re always getting new and exciting people.”
One person who’s not adding a new member to the family is Felicity’s co-star, Eva Longoria, who has been battling pregnancy rumors.
“I think she handles it with great aplomb,” Felicity says. “She’s moved into being a superstar with wonderful grace and equanimity and she has a great sense of humor and a great joie de vivre.”
