The retro looking British babes, promise OK! they're more than just a girl group they're a real live band.
Why do you think the retro girl pop sound is making a comeback?
I have no idea. People arent looking to the furture they're looking to the past constantly. So when people are offering up music whose history is older than 5 or 10 years and for us it was an initially a starting point. People are realizing there's more music out there.
Obviously wanted to do it in regards to the girl group formula. We kind of thought it would be funny to play off that role. People thought our backing band didn't exist.
Who are your influences?
So many...the Charades, the Chiffons, Banana Ramma.
It's a starting point. We very much live in the here and now. We recorded everything in digital. We did want to make people realize that we are making music in the here and now. We talk about things that we know now.

Describe your style? Why wear the matching outfits?
The polka dots were a patent decuded before we were asked to join the band. it was a visual to be immediately recognized. Also again fitting in with the girl group formula.
Was it a specific choice to have that image?
I dont know. Some people it's weird and pointless. Some people think were making a fashion statement. But, it's interesting. You can open up discussion.
The Pipettes album "WE ARE THE PIPETTES" is out now!
