The first witness in the John Travolta extortion case took the stand today in the Bahamas, testifying that John at first wanted to take his son Jett to an airport -- to fly to nearby Florida for medical care -- instead of a local hospital, TMZ reports.
Police inspector Andrew Wells testified that paramedic Tarino Lightbourne, one of the defendants in the case, told him John signed a form releasing medical professionals from liability in order to take his son to the airport. John thought flying to Florida, where he could get 16-year-old boy better medical care than at a Bahamian hospital. However, John changed his mind and Jett did go to the hospital, where he died.

Prosecutors are making the case that Lightbourne and former senator Pleasant Bridgewater attempted to extort $5 million from John in order to keep out of the public eye.
John is currently in the Bahamas, and could testify today or tomorrow.
