This is my first year working for OK! that I won’t be attending the MTV Video Music Awards.
In 2005, it was in Miami and Hurricane Katrina nearly kept us from leaving NYC. (It hadn’t hit New Orleans yet; it was simply soaking the streets and blowing the trees around in Florida.) Many staffers traveled down, and we went to lots of parties including OK!-sponsored soirees attended by Snoop Dogg and Pamela Anderson. The gift suites were amazing. I got Limited jeans, an iPod dog, etc. Nice!
Then, Saturday night, while I was covering a party with the likes of and , word leaked out that there had been a shooting. Ultimately, was injured across town. Everyone was terrified, and several co-workers witnessed the nightmarish party.
The next day, took home Best Female Video and Best Pop Video for "Since U Been Gone," and she stopped back to chat.
“I have the most awesome support system,” Kelly tells me of what gives her confidence. “My friends, my management, everyone I work with at the label is really onboard. I just have a really, really great support system, so I’ve always been kind of like that. But I’m humble as well, because there’s a lot of things about which I have no clue.”
, who attended the event with his sons, also stopped back to catch up.
“I want to be the best person that I can be,” Diddy tells me of his future plans. “I’m always striving to be a better person, and I just want to get better in everything that I do in entertainment. I don’t have a lot of time to think of challenges, so they just come up in the middle of the night for me. I thank God that he blesses me with opportunities.”
