Friday Night Fun

I’m not usually a big fan of venturing out on a Friday night, but I think it’s more I don’t like to go places that I ‘have’ to go on Friday nights, I’m fine if the places I go are with good friends purely by choice. Last night was fun.
A dozen or so of us began the night drinking copious amounts of wine at a friend’s loft- a sick studio-like space easily four times the size of my apartment. When we were getting ready to go check out 1OAK someone said “Big Al is on his way, get ready for an experience on the ride there.” I started thinking Big Al must be coming with a bus because by this point our party had grown to 14! But, no, Big Al rolled up in a stretch white limo with a lighting streak down the side, fluorescent purple lights underneath and disco balls among other late-70s garb decorating the inside. It was certainly quite a ride!

After an hour at 1OAK, a lounge rather than a club, (so I was a fan) )and even a bit of dancing, we went to check out National Underground, a new dive bar a few blocks from my house that Gavin Degraw recently opened. My friend visiting from Miami is a friend of Gavin’s so she introduced us and somehow next thing I knew were debating politics. He’s quite intelligent and after a few hours of drinking I stopped while I was ahead. Or, maybe I wasn’t ahead at all and we stopped because he actually got on the mic and sang! My friends all love Gavin and now I understand why. He’s an amazing singer, performer, smart – and cute too. I told him if he ever had any views he wanted to express he could guest blog sometime, but he basically said he has no desire to preach his beliefs to others. That just made me respect him so much more…But, maybe one day I can have him blog about something else, like music ;)
