No condoms, no sex! chanted actor Richard Gere before a crowd of over 15,000 people in the Indian city of Mumbai on Jan. 10. The film star and AIDS activist visited the Asian nation to urge the use of condoms, especially among the city’s estimated 10,000 sex workers, to prevent the spread of HIV. Before, there was a total lack of knowledge among sex workers about HIV and even about their own bodies, Gere told reporters. Now there is a radical change.
