"Hair is the Most Important"

So is the mantra of my friend Joyce Sevilla, who rarely leaves the house without a blowout.
When I get my haircut I have a habit of telling the stylist, ‘Do whatever you think will look best.” This has afforded me some pretty interesting results – including one time when my trusted friend thought what would ‘look best’ included chopping off nearly 10 inches of my hair and dying my naturally blond hair fire engine red on top and platinum on the bottom. She said, ‘Wow, I didn’t realize your hair would take so well to color.’ I said, “Wow, I’m not cool enough for this haircut.’ We died it all red and I had to ride it out. Amazing how your hair cut/color dictates your personality and how others perceive you. This haircut was a few days before I moved from Arizona to NYC and I can honestly say, I believe for better or worse, it changed my life.

Yesterday I had the privilege of getting my hair cut at the Neil George salon – by Neil himself! It was like feeding candy to a kid being pampered by Neil and Bryce, the same people responsible for styling famous tresses including Reese Witherspoon, and Ryan Phillipe, Cameron Diaz, Hilary Swank, Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan and Ryan Reynolds. After a subtle cut Neil told Bryce to go for ‘soft and romantic’ with the blowout and I think they executed the look divinely – all without a curling iron (see photo). Better still, ever since I moved to LA my biggest problem with this town (now that I’ve learned to drive again) has been how dry my hair has been since I’ve got here. I’m told it’s the ‘hard water.’ But, at Neil George they used a little of Neil’s new signature ‘Neil George Intense Illuminating Shampoo’ on my parched locks and now they have a whole new life and softness. It’s so good I took some home to counter my shower’s horrible hard water.
