Ellen DeGeneres and actor-musician Harry Connick Jr. are both from New Orleans, and Saturday they returned to their hometown to mark the graduation of Tulane University's "Katrina Class," students displaced by the hurricane in 2005, reports the AP.

"Look at you," Ellen told the 2,000 or so graduates at  the Louisiana Superdome. "Usually when you're wearing a robe at 10 in the morning it means you've given up."

Harry spoke briefly after receiving an honorary degree for his work in the city's recovery.

"You are my heroes," he told the graduates.

Tulane President Scott Cowen presented Ellen with the Tulane University President's Medal for her work to raise money and awareness for New Orleans after Katrina.
