Heather Thomson took a break from bickering with her Real Housewives of New York co-stars and running her Yummie shape wear line to give students tips on how to thrive in the fashion industry.

“You have to love what you do because you’re going to be doing a lot of it,” Thomson told participants of the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund on June 23. “I loved what I was doing and that’s when it hit me. With the fashion industry as competitive as it is, Thomson gave advice on how the students could stand out from each other.

“Be innovative,” she said. “Look at the market and find the holes. What makes me so special is I don’t hang up on that wall the same old stuff that everyone else is showing off. I have a different point of view.”

The YMA Scholarship Fund helps aspiring designers, merchandisers, retailers and more become successful in the fashion industry through Breakfast With The Boss events with fashion icons.
