Heavy D Honored at Soul Train Awards

Late rapper Heavy D was honored last night at the Soul Train Awards in Atlanta. Several of his close friends paid homage to the fallen performer including Naughty By Nature, Doug E. Fresh, Kurtis Blow and Goodie Mob.

According to E! News, they played some of Heavy D's biggest hits and at the end of the number, they led the uadience in a chant of "We got nothing but love for you, Heavy!" Gladys Knight and Earth, Wind and Fire were also honored with tribute performances. As for artists who participated in their tributes? Natalie Cole, Robin Thicke, Eric Benet, Marsha Ambrosius, Tamar Braxton, Bootsy Collins and more. Although the night also featured performances by Robin, Miguel, Common, Anthony Hamilton and Cee Lo Green, big winners included Cee Lo. He won the award for Best Male R&B/Soul Artist. Jill Scott ousted Beyonce and Kelly Rowland for Best Female R&B Soul Artist.
