Hilary Duff Eager to Know Baby's Sex

Is it a boy or a girl?
Pregnant Hilary Duff is counting down the minutes to find out whether she’ll be coloring the nursery in her new home in blue or pink.
“The countdown has begun,” the star, who wed hockey player Mike Comrie in 2010, tells me. “Every single day, I’m like, ‘oh my gosh, seven more days!’ I’m so not the person who could wait and have it be a surprise. I give them respect, but I don’t know how people do that. I need to be totally prepared. I think it’s going to help me feel even more connected to it, to know what it is.”
They recently remodeled a new home, which will now be baby-friendly – and include a nursery.
“We’re moving, and we put new floors in and everything, and we were going to just leave that room alone and focus on rooms we were going to use more, and then we found out I was pregnant,” she says. “I was like ‘let’s rework the closet.’ We put a great bathtub in there that will make it really easy to bathe a baby. We haven’t done any design stuff. We have to find out if we’re going to be a boy or a girl before we can come up with colors.”
The actress/author, whose second novel Devoted is out Tuesday, recently celebrated her 24th birthday with a visit to her favorite eatery, Il Ristorante di Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, Calif. She indulged in her favorite dish, truffle corn ravioli.
How are the cravings going?
“I haven’t had any,” she says. “I think maybe that happens when you’re a little further along. I think sometimes I crave things that aren’t as good for me, but it’s not like ‘I need fries now.’ People say in the middle of the night, they crave frozen yogurt or ice cream. I haven’t really had that yet. When I think about something, I can’t get it out of my mind until I have it.”

She adds, “I like chocolate-covered pretzels right now a lot. I’ve always been a pickle girl, but those aren’t really bad for you. There’s a lot of sodium, but at least it’s not fried or fattening. Honestly, it hasn’t been too bad yet.”
Until the baby arrives this spring, the couple is focusing on each other.
For her birthday, Mike treated her to a long-awaited experience.
“He also took me to the J. Paul Getty museum, which was a lot of fun, and I’ve been bugging him forever to go. I can’t believe I’ve lived in L.A. for, like, fifteen years now, and never have gone.”
She adds, “It was fun. It was very PG.”
Considering the way he’s spoiling Hilary, Mike, 31, will surely make a doting dad.
“He’s being really nice,” she says. “He took me around for a whole birthday day, and he’s putting in a lot of time with the animals. We have a pretty sick dog right now, so he’s constantly keeping up with giving her all of her medicine, and you have to feed her all the time.”
She adds, “He’s a really good guy. I feel very lucky. He’s really, really excited about the baby.”
