The Hills may no longer be alive if producers don’t find a replacement for Lauren Conrad, 23!

“They wanted Audrina Patridge but that fell through,” a show insider tells OK!, adding that they met with Laguna Beach alums, including Kristin Cavallari, 22, but “she asked for a dream salary twice as large as LC’s.”

“Better to have one successful show than two sinking ships!” says the insider. But MTV reps counter, “The City will return this summer with a dynamic new season.”
