Fresh off his $300 million turn as Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr. is ready to fight more crime, this time as another literary character -- Sherlock Holmes.
Warner Bros. has tapped the actor to star in its forthcoming eponymous mystery drama as the world's most famous detective. The film will also be based on a new comic book about Holmes by Lionel Wigram, one of the flick's producers.
Guy Ritchie is slated to direct, with production commencing in October.

Robert didn't have much competition at the box office when Iron Man steamrolled to No. 1, but he may have to do battle with another very, very similar film to get to the top with Sherlock Holmes.
Last week, Columbia Pictures announced their own Holmes project, reteaming Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby stars Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen. The as-yet-untitled film will feature Borat, er, Sacha as Sherlock and Will as sidekick Dr. Watson.
