After initially reporting that Michael Phelps owes more than $20,000 in back taxes, TMZ has issued a correction. While a Michael Phelps does indeed owe tons of cash, it's not the Olympic games' swimming golden boy, just another guy who happens to share his name. Woops!"There is definitely a Michael Phelps who owes $20,000 to the State of California ... problem is, he's not the same Michael Phelps who competed in the Olympics," TMZ says in their apology. "As for the real Phelps, he's in excellent tax standing in the Golden state."
This morning TMZ had cited a tax lien filed last year for $23,289.16 for tax returns back in 2005 and 2006, owed to the State of California. The other Michael Phelps better get that worked out!
