July 14 2011, Published 10:59 a.m. ET
There is nothing like doing some real hands-on research for a film role. Actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Peña ended up on the scene of a bloody gang shooting Wednesday night, while they were on a police ride-along with the LAPD researching for their new movie.
Radar Online reports that when the soon-to-be co-stars arrived at the Southern L.A. crime scene, they found a victim that had been shot down by his rival gang members.
The man was then hospitalized for grazing bullet wounds, as well as wounds above his lip and on his arm, and is in stable condition.
No one was arrested on the scene.
The shooting reportedly took place at an anti-gang event organized by Summer Night Lights — a group trying to "reduce violence during the summer by keeping public parks open for gang-free activity."
