At the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in NYC, when Jennifer Lopez received her award from Donatella Versace, the American Idol judge gave a heartfelt speech about the importance of strong women surrounding themselves by other strong, loving women.
"I've had an incredible year, incredible couple years, ups and some not so ups and the one thing that got me through, was the women in my life - my mother, my cousins, my friends, my sisters, all circling around me," said Jennifer. Her speech continued, "When I look around this room and I think about how wonderful and beautiful it is to have that in your life, it's the women in my life that help me and shape me into the woman that I am today." Recalling her grandmother who taught her how to cook and be humble, to her mom who is a teacher and "worked tirelessly and taught me discipline, taught me work ethic," and even her second grade teacher who bought J. Lo glitter on her day off, she gave props to her daughter Emme as well who "inspires me every day to be a better human being." As school girls shouted, "I love you" from the balcony, Jennifer gave them a shout out, too. "So, I just want to say something to all the girls up there...I love you guys...that's the most important lesson that they all taught me is to take care of other women, support other women....They will always be there. They will never leave you. Those are the greatest loves of my life." Reporting by Jessica Summers
