Studio collaborators Jessica Simpson and Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan are making sweet music — not sweet love — together.
After a month of flirting and songwriting, Fox411.com reports that Jessica and Billy's musical partnership hasn't developed into anything more.
"Jessica loved spending so much time in and out of the studio with Billy," a friend of Jessica told Fox411.com. "She's in awe of his musical prowess, and it adds to her feelings for him, but they are not dating."
The source said the two were introduced by a music producer friend and they've worked together in New York and Los Angeles.
"Dating Jessica publicly can be intense. Billy maintains a quiet, private music-focused life and the taste of publicity he got while being with Jessica was an eye opener," the source said.
"Billy likes Jessica, but he will work to keep their relationship as it is and focus on the music. They are not getting serious, but Jessica has had so much fun with him."

The friend said that Jessica is reacting against her good-girl image and she's trying to ignore the fuss about her fluctuating weight.
"She really got fed up with doing things for other people," the source says. "Jessica barely wears makeup these days. Her workout schedule isn't strict. She eats whatever she wants.
"She once was a slave to what people thought and said, about her and her time with Billy has brought out an even more mature and toned down Jessica."
