Five-time Oscar winner, John Barry, composer of James Bond films, Born Free and Out of Africa, succombed to a heart attack in NYC. He was 77.

As reported by BBC News, John Barry Prendergast was born in 1933 and discovered fame at first as the leader of the John Barry Seven. He is perhaps most known for his arrangement of James Bond films which led him to compose scores for 11 films in the 007 series.

David Arnold, the current Bond film composer, tweeted: "It was with a heavy heart that i tell you John Barry passed away this morning." He added, "I am profoundly saddened by the news but profoundly thankful for everything he did for music and for me personally."
