After National Enquirer published a report claiming John Edwards proposed to his mistress Rielle Hunter in the wake of Elizabeth Edwards' death, the democratic senator's camp has decided to speak out.
"I can tell you that it’s not true," the rep for the Edwards' family told the Daily Beast (via the L.A. Times), explaining he does not know who the source mentioned in the story could be.
The published story villainized John for having "outrageous disregard for his wife Elizabeth's deathbed wish" and claims the couple plan to wed this summer, and that John "is buying a luxury $3.5 million beachfront home where they can live happily ever after with their love child.”
Tomorrow marks a month since Elizabeth passed away after a heroic 7-year battle with breast cancer.

She left everything to three children and named her oldest daughter, Catharine, the executor of the will, which was reportedly revised six days before her death. There is no mention of her estranged husband.
John and Rielle bore daughter Francis Quinn Hunter Edwards, 2, during their tryst.
The Enquirer has established some validity in the Edwards scandal after it broke the news of the then presdential candidate's affair with Rielle in 2007 and dropped the bombshell about their daughter together.

Elizabeth and John legally separated, but she remained with him on the campaign.
Rielle recently opened up to GQ magazine about her feelings for John and their affair.
“I feel comfortable talking now, because Johnny went public and made a statement admitting paternity,” she said in the GQ interview about finally opening up on their relationship.
“I didn’t feel like I could ever speak until he did that. Because had I spoken, I would have emasculated him. And I could not emasculate him. He’s very supportive of me talking now.”
She also admitted to still being in love with him.
“I do know that I love him and that love is till death do us part, and probably beyond, she says. “We have a child together, so at the very least we will be co-parents together.”
