Jordin Sparks is featured in “What I Ate Today” in the OK! on newsstands now. The American Idol champion, 21, shares her workout strategy.

Her choice activity? Walking.

“Being able to get outside and not be inside where there’s the TV and there’s the computer and there’s your IPod is great,” she tells me. “It’s nice to stay inside and it’s nice to walk around, and especially because I have my two dogs, I have to go outside constantly. Being able to go outside to walk with them and feel nature is great. It’s nice to be able to go and walk and feel the breeze and see the trees. It’s actually a nice gift. As soon as I get up and walk around, I automatically feel better, I feel more energized … it’s almost like I’ve been recharged.”

For Jordin, walking increases her appetite.

“You’re burning more, which means you’re hungry more, so I get to have a lot of great food,” she says.

When she’s not walking, Jordin stays fit in other ways.

“I like swimming a lot. Swimming’s something that has always been my go-to exercise when I don’t feel like being on a treadmill.”

Busy Jordin party-hopped between the Grammy Awards, the Pre-Grammy Gala, MusiCares Person of The Year Tribute to Barbra Streisand, Belvedere Red launch and Grammy Career Day over a three-day span in L.A. this week.

What’s her biggest diet challenge?

“Something now is forgetting to eat just in general because things get so crazy,” she says. “Just moving so fast, and forgetting to eat. That’ s something I need to watch because it’s very important to make sure you get your nutrition throughout the day, so it’s really nice to be able to have these Quaker Chewy granola bars because they’re great for on-the-go and I can take them in my pocket.”
