Before Whitney Houston's untimely death on February 11, she was hard at work filming the upcoming movie, Sparkle, about a 60s-era girl group that become Motown sensations. She and co-star Jordin Sparks recorded an upbeat single, "Celebrate," and had plans to star together in the music video.

While filming the music video never came to fruition, Jordan told BET she wanted the video to "be a tribute to her" with the singer even wearing a Whitney Houston shirt in certain scenes. They spliced in footage from the movie and also shot a happy party scene starring Jordin and the rest of the Sparkle cast.
"We’re all just having a good time and the premise is they all come over to my house singing along to Whitney’s music," she said. "And we’re missing her and celebrating her as well. It’s actually pretty simple, but when you watch it and hear her voice along with it, it makes it so much more."
