Most of us who are big fans of Biebs held our breath last night during the Grammys when alas, our guy did not win the coveted honor of Best New Artist. Doing the honorable thing, when Justin Bieber ran into Esperanza Spalding, the winner, he shook her hand and congratulated her. Find out more after the jump!

According to MTV, Justin was in a jovial mode backstage and congratulated Esperanza on her victory. He also tweeted about the night indicating his disappointment: "As for the awards...of course I wanted to win. Its been & still is a dream to win a grammy. Was I upset...yes. But I was happy for her also." He followed up with another tweet: "Someone said to me tonight its not your successes that define u but your faiures. I lost..but I don't plan on this being my last chance...."

Award aside, Justin's performance with Usher and Jaden Smith was a treat for not only fans but Justin as well. He tweeted. "2nite was a great night. I got to perform at the grammys with my mentor @usherraymondiv and I feel like we did u guys proud."
