The announcement that Prince William has popped the question to Kate Middleton has finally been made and Kate's parents, Michael and Carole Middleton, are "absolutely delighted!"
Michael read a statement outside his home near the Berkshire village of Bucklebury today, according to The Press Association.
"I would just like to say that Carole and I are absolutely delighted by today's announcement and thrilled at the prospect of a wedding some time next year."
"As you know Catherine and Prince William have been going out together for quite a number of years which has been great for us because we have got to know William very well," he explained. "We all think he is wonderful and we are extremely fond of him."
Kate's parents were escorted by staff from Clarence House to the end of their drive to deliver their statement and admitted they were a little nervous.
"They make a lovely couple, they are great fun to be with, and we've had a lot of laughs together," Michael added. "We wish them every happiness for the future."
Following the statement, Mr. and Mrs. Middleton posed for photos before going back into their home, which is being guarded by police officers.
They may have been nervous, but it's clear they're very excited about the news!
