Katherine Heigl is Out of 'Grey's Anatomy'

After a controversial six-year run on Grey's Anatomy, Katherine Heigl is finally hanging up her white coat and making her exit from the hit ABC show.
Series creator Shonda Rhimes has agreed to release Katherine, who wants to concentrate on making movies, from her contract, reports EW.com's Michael Ausiello. A rep for ABC Studios declined to comment.

Katherine took off more than half of the current season to spend time with her adopted daughter, but she was scheduled to return to the Grey’s set on March 1 to film five remaining episodes of the season.
However filming with Katherine didn't resume as planned on March 1. A source close to Katherine says she was "at home and ready to return to work.” But, another insider says "it’s much more complicated than that.”

The source adds that talks between Katherine and ABC have been going on for months and last week both sides mutually decided that the best solution would be to part ways now, as opposed to at the end of the season.

That means that Katherine won't be returning to the Grey’s set, so her final episode as Izzie Stevens has already aired.

This ends Katherine's love-hate relationship with the show, during which time she's spoken out against Isaiah Washington, made a dig at the Grey's writers by dissing her material for not being "Emmy-worthy" and moaned to David Letterman about her 17-hour working days.
