Katy Perry debuted her new single “Part of Me” at the Grammy Awards last month and the lyrics seemed to echo her personal life to a tee, as the 27-year-old just divorced comedian Russell Brand. In a new interview, Katy revealed that the song was actually written in 2010, way before her marriage started to see any signs of trouble.

“I wrote it two years ago, which is funny because everybody is like 'God, it sounds so current,'” Katy explained to MTV News of the song’s lyrics not representing her separation from the Arthur actor.
Katy even recognized the irony in the song, as it reads, “You can keep the diamond ring, it don't mean nothing anyway.”
“It just feels like sometimes I'm caught in this movie where my life is paralleling my music! It seems very serendipitous…” the Santa Barbara native gushed and joked of her coincidentally prophetic lyrics, “sometimes I'm like, 'Am I living in 'The Truman Show?' ... what's going on?'”
